Guild History

Prairie Fibers Weavers and Spinners Guild is headquartered in Hastings, Nebraska. Though our meetings are held in the central part of the state, we continue to draw members and visitors from all over Nebraska and have had visitors from other states as well. We currently have over 75 members ranging from age 6 to 86.

For all of its 15-year history, our guild has focused on preserving the fiber arts for our communities, our families, and ourselves. We follow the spirit of our charter members----we are not here to compete for best in show, but are here to pass on what we know.

Our guild started fifteen years ago in October of 1991 with ten charter members. Until March of 2003, we met in a local Hastings church. Since then, we have met at The Plum Nelly, the local weaving shop in Hastings, Nebraska.

Having a local weaving shop has been vital to the growth and nature of our guild. Iris Nunley, one of the ten founding members, brought the Plum Nelly with her to Hastings in 1991 after having lived all over the world for 50 years. Her shop began in her home but now is located in downtown Hastings. We are blessed to have a woman with such vision and generosity and a wonderful place to purchase our supplies and meet together.

As we continue to grow, we hope to reflect the standards and values of those who worked so hard before us to bring fiber arts to our communities and future generations.
